Help – I’ve set up my eCommerce with PayPal but I’m getting an error!

The Problem:
So, you’ve enabled eCommerce on your Litmos account and set up your PayPal Business account, but when you click to purchase one of your courses you see this message:

Course Sign Up Error. You do not have permissions to make this API call

Now what do you do?

The Solution:
You are receiving this error message because one small setting was overlooked and not activated when you connected your PayPal and Litmos accounts.  To enable the setting which will allow the API call, please follow the directions in Step 2 of this eCommerce Help text page: “Step 2: Setup API Access“.

If you’re stilling having trouble you can check the following settings in your PayPal account.

To check that API access is enabled in your account first login to your PayPal account and click on the ”Profile” option under the ”My Account” tab.

Click “Update” on the “API Access” line.


Click “Enable Express Checkout” to accept payments from your online stores right away.


Make sure “Accept PayPal payments before API permissions or credentials are set up” is selected.


Then go back to the main “API Access” menu and  click ”Add or edit API permissions”.


Enter into the Third Party Permission Username field and click Lookup.


Check the boxes shown below and click Add.
